Putting a face on real estate since 1995.

Local REALTOR finds big success through networking, leadership roles

Today, Ruby Johnson is a successful REALTOR with a passion for helping buyers find their dream home. In addition, she serves as 2017 District Vice President for the Women’s Council of REALTORS® Texas Network and is slated to be the organization’s Governor in 2018.

But Johnson hasn’t always been in the real estate business. In 2002, after purchasing a home in the Houston area, Johnson was impressed with her experience working with a Keller Williams agent who sold her current home and helped with the purchase of a new property.

“I’ve been a REALTOR for more than 15 years now, and truly love helping buyers find their dream homes,” says Johnson, who works with Keller Williams Cedar Park.

Throughout her early career in real estate, Johnson was able to grow professionally and learn what it takes to be a successful REALTOR. “There are up and downs, but the key is to work your database, generate leads, and stay in touch with your prospects and clients every single day,” Johnson says.

In 2009, Johnson joined Women’s Council of REALTORS after attending their national convention. “Seeing the value and dedication of the amazing leaders there, as well as the education opportunities, support, networking and referral opportunities, I decided to join the Austin Network,” Johnson says.

Not long after joining the Austin Network, Johnson began serving on committees and attending Business Resource Meetings, fundraisers, networking events, education classes, and State and National Conventions. She soon began taking on leadership roles, which has led her to be slated as the organization’s 2018 Governor for Texas.

“I hope to serve Women’s Council as it continues to grow,” Johnson says. “My desire is to continue to grow in Women’s Council. This is truly my passion.”

For Johnson, it’s an innate passion for helping others that drives her to seek leadership and mentorship opportunities. “I have a huge desire to help others become successful and to grow future leaders through membership,” Johnson says. “I enjoy giving back to the Real Estate community that has blessed me in so many ways.”

Serving in leadership roles has also helped Johnson in her career. “I have learned delegation, teamwork, patience, how to work with different personalities, and that there’s more than one way to do a job,” Johnson says.

For those interested in leadership opportunities, Johnson recommends joining a networking group to get to know others in the real estate community. She advises, “Find a mentor, shadow colleagues, wear your name badge, partake in education opportunities, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
