Need to Know: TREC Advertising Rule Changes
In February, TREC passed advertising rule changes that impact the way a brokerages’ teams or groups can market themselves. Effective May 15, a team or group must clearly communicate their affiliation with their broker in all advertisements and marketing materials to avoid the implication that the team is offering brokerage services independent of the broker. In addition, TREC also removed the word “realty” from the list of terms that are prohibited in team or group names. Advertising rules in our industry can change quickly, and it’s up to agents and brokers to stay on top of such changes to ensure they’re in compliance. Tell Your Clients: City of Austin Carbon Monoxide Ordinance
As of April 1, a majority of homeowners within Austin’s city limits will be required to install and maintain carbon monoxide alarms. More than 1,500 accidental deaths and 10,000 carbon monoxide related-injuries are reported in the U.S. each year. Point of sale is a great time to mention this new ordinance and if you’re representing buyers, underline your value by advising them to look for operational detectors during the inspection and option period. Austin City Council’s deliberations on the third draft of CodeNEXT are heating up, and we want to make sure you’re fully equipped to discuss this watershed moment with your clients. NAR Legislative Meetings: May 14-19
As we wrap up Fair Housing Month, it’s important to maintain the conversation around fair and affordable housing. To do just that, ABoR leaders will travel to Washington D.C. for NAR’s Legislative Meeting & Trade Expo May 14–19. During this time, we will commemorate the Fair Housing Act with U.S. Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver, who will share his personal story on the importance of housing security for all Americans. Our advocacy team and ABoR members will be meeting directly with your Congressional representatives to advocate for the issues that matter most to Austin REALTORS.
