With more than three decades in the mortgage industry, Mark Hairston has worked with a variety of homebuyers. Whether buying their first home, moving into a larger property or relocating to the area, Hairston provides mortgage services to clients buying, refinancing or building homes across Texas.
“I’m a mortgage advocate, so my responsibilities are to consult and educate potential homebuyers on mortgage strategies that serve them both in the short and long term,” says Hairston, who works for Barton Creek Lending Group.
In addition to specializing in mortgage services for first-time buyers, as well as those moving into larger homes or renovating, Hairston has comprehensive experience working with veterans. “I have worked with veterans for more than 30 years,” Hairston says. “I have extensive training working with the Veterans Association and VA Loans.”
Over the years, Hairston has provided mortgage and lending services in Central Texas, as well as throughout the state of Texas. However, this wasn’t his initial career path. “In 1977, I moved to Austin to go to the University of Texas, where I graduated with an engineering degree,” Hairston says. “I found engineering to be boring, so I decided to use my natural personality skills and strong math background to go into sales and entered the mortgage industry in 1985.”
Hairston lives by his mission statement: Transforming the way clients access mortgages, through education and competition. “The main difference between me and other originators, is that I work for the client and not a particular retail mortgage company, bank or credit union,” Hairston says. “Because of this, I’m able to offer a borrower not only extraordinary service, backed by a service guarantee, but also provide the best rate and terms in the local market.”
Staying true to his mission, Hairston has focused a significant portion of his career on education. “My passion is education and marketing/business development,” Hairston says. “I have taught more than 2,500 agents around Texas and currently have seven courses approved for CE credits.”
The first mortgage originator in Austin to be approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission to teach REALTORS, Hairston is approved to teach pre-licensing, continuing education and Graduate REALTOR Institute courses. “To help agents in business planning, goals setting and productivity, I’m also certified to teach The ONE Thing by Gary Keller, The Speed of Trust by Stephen M. Covey and Guerrilla Marketing by J. Conrad Levsion,” Hairston says. “Philosophically, I work from a place of ‘Giver’s Gain’, which correlates to ‘people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.’”
In addition to further his own education and teaching fellow mortgage brokers, Hairston is also passionate about educating his clients. “I’m probably the only lender in Austin who proactively teaches and encourages their clients how to shop for a loan,” he says. “For most people, buying and financing a home is the single largest investment they will ever make. But sadly, very few people understand how the industry works and how to find the best deal.”
Recently, Hairston completed a white paper, titled “The Truth in Lending”, which helps educate potential clients on how to shop for a mortgage loan by giving them insights into the mortgage industry.
Using the tagline, “Experience the Experienced!,” Hairston and his loan partner have more than 50 years of combined experience with over 6,000 successful closings. “When I work with borrowers, they can always expect honest, consistent and transparent communication, expert mortgage counsel, the best rate and terms, and a timely and guaranteed closing experience.” RL
